      Princess Slayer
Warm bass, big beats and ethereal soundscapes.
Princess Slayer are a live electronica band from the UK. Their performances are electrifying and their productions are “slick and ultra sexy”. The likes of Bonobo, Phaeleh and Die Antwoord inspire Vince Welch’s beats and production, whilst the melodies of Submotion Orchestra, HAIM and Sia echo throughout Casey Lim’s vocals.
For their live performances, Vince performs as drummer and Casey fronts the stage with an empowering presence. The pair recruit the help of talented players: Jack Kendrew and Nathan Rasdall, to bring their electronic songs to life, offering an energetic contrast to the group’s polished studio sound.

“Lyger take the best bits of grunge, punk and rock and infuses them together to make a hard-hitting track like Power Struggle. Simon, Rich, Andy and Tom have written the formula for a perfect pop-rock track here; with punchy hooks, solid riffs, a high-powered and crowd-inspiring chorus, all immersed in energetic percussion, you have a track set to uplift an audience and get their hearts racing.” – Radio 1, BBC
      Soundcloud

      Forever Cult
“‘Yasmin’ opens with Kieran Clarke’s beautifully out of tune grunge drone, before bursting with an intensely gritty attitude which underpins the remaining two and a half minutes. The track perfectly demonstrates Forever Cult’s no-nonsense grunge, while highlighting their angrier edge – an edge which spawned the original movement.”

For the second Taking Back Friday we have a pretty amazing night planned – even if we do say so ourselves. For the live portion of the evening we have some amazing live bands:

      The Dirty Youth
In 2010 ‘The Dirty Youth’ released their debut single ‘Fight’ which went on to take the internet by storm resulting in ‘Fight’ going viral in a short space of time racking up over 4 millions views on Youtube. This was shortly followed by their critically acclaimed debut album ‘Red Light Fix’ which fuelled the fire for the band to grow a strong global fan base resulting in touring the world with massive acts such as Grammy Award winning superstars Korn, The Rasmus and Reckless Love to name a few.

The band has also made some mammoth appearances at Hyde Park beside Bruce Springsteen, Getaway Rocks with Slash and Motörhead. The band were also invited to play the Second Stage at Download Festival 2014. South Wales titans ‘The Dirty Youth’ now get ready for the next chapter of their careers with the release of ‘Gold Dust’

Quiet as a Mouse are an Edinburgh based indie/alternative band formed by Alex Moran (Singer/Songwriter), Ali Walker (Guitar), Richard Cobb (Bass) and Graham Longbottom (Drums) in 2012.

The group’s live reputation has quickly grown as QAAM have supported Hinds (Deers), The Orwells, Palma Violets & Coasts in Scotland. Their first batch of London shows were with Club Fandango at Bull & Gate & Buffalo Bar as well as headlining Birthdays.

These outstanding performances have earned them “Gig of the Day” from Ruth Kilpatrick at Amazing Radio, airplay support from Tom Robinson (BBC 6 Music), Vic Galloway (BBC Radio Scotland), Chris Martin, Charlie Ashcroft and Jim Gellaty at Amazing Radio.

On the back of the free download track ‘An Accident Waiting To Happen (Awoo Woo Woo)’ the band released their debut single ‘Home Is The Hardest Place To Find’ in August 2013.

Quiet as a Mouse released their next single ‘Casketcase’ in February 2014. ‘Casketcase’ like ‘Home Is The Hardest Place To Find’ was produced by Marcus Mackay (Frightened Rabbit & Snow Patrol) and mastered by Chris Potter (Arctic Monkeys).

In August 2014 QAAM released their debut EP ‘British Flag’ which was engineered and mixed by Liam Watson (The White Stripes ‘Elephant’) at Toerag Studios (Metronomy, Tame Impala & The Wytches) in London and mastered by Noel Summerville (The Clash & Aphex Twin).

To celebrate the EP’s release they played launch shows at The Old Blue Last in London and at Sneaky Pete’s in Edinburgh in August.

What Ever Happened To P-Rock? are happy to announce that we have the London date for Swedish giants Atlas Losing Grip!! Having successfully merged melodic punk rock with the grandeur and power of heavy metal. The January 2015 release of “Currents,” the band’s third full-length, marks a ten year anniversary since the start in Lund, a city that has played an important role for the melodic Swedish punk rock heritage, with Bad Taste Records and bands such as Satanic Surfers and Astream. The album is a real stepping stone for the band and we are very excited to see this live!

      Atlas Losing Grip
The Human Project are a fast, loud, melodic punk rock band from Leeds, UK, and have been ripping up the UK punk scene since 2010. In a short time they have become known as a stand out act in the UK scene, and a tight, explosive, and impressive live band.

“‘Off the Hook’ was the first taste of their new material, and now, with ‘Dig’, the boys are giving us the first full glimpse of their new skin. The production is as crisp as a ten pack of Walkers. The guitars ooze muddy-menace, and lead singer Aiden veers wildly between hushed meance and full bodied bellows. It might be the best thing they’ve done to date and that’s no easy feat.” – Shiny Shiny New

      Jeremy and the Harlequins
In this day and age of over produced, digitized music, New York 5 piece, Jeremy and The Harlequins are a breath of fresh air. Their sound is stripped down and the lyrics are playful and honest. Nostalgic, and at some times haunting, Jeremy and The Harlequins are a trip through the early days of American rock ‘n roll.

We are living in a time where most of the real instruments on recordings are the recycled loops of yesteryear. Whether it is rock, pop, country or hip hop, the computer has found a way of making a guest appearance on nearly every new album. And while to some there is nothing wrong with turning the laptop into the next electric guitar, there is something undeniably magical about live bands. So, whether you want to call them purists, throwbacks or relics, at their core, Jeremy and The Harlequins are something rare in today’s musical landscape. They are human.

      The Griswolds

As far as debut album mantras go, “Be Impressive” is a fantastically simple statement of intent.

For Sydney party-starters The Griswolds it proved the driving ideal that would shake off the daiquiri-flavoured tropical tones of their Heart of a Lion EP and unite the four-piece’s more refined musical goals. Be Impressive? These 11 shimmering, anthemic tracks are that and more. Be Impressive isn’t just an indie-rock record you can dance to; it’s a record that’ll break and mend your heart, have you dancing with joy. It’s the hedonistic island paradise that’s an escape from all of your worries… before it becomes obvious it’s better to confront them than to run away.

It’s a long way from the Sydney houseparty where Christopher Whitehall (vocals/guitar) challenged “sometime drinking buddy” Daniel Duque-Perez (guitar/synth), to write a riff on the spot. “That was how the band started,” laughs Dan. “Chris thought that riff was really fun and interesting, and it turned into our first single, ’Mississippi’. The two of us realised that perhaps we could do something really cool, that the way we wrote songs together was something neither of us wanted to waste.”

Be Impressive is about growing up, finding your own path and dealing with the challenges that presents. It’s about love and loss; spontaneous happiness and devastating sadness. It covers a wide emotional spectrum; able to soundtrack a crazy road trip with your best friends… or your next ‘we all lost our shirts’ house party… or your next breakup.

The band’s intentions, though, remain as simple as the album’s title. “We’re pretty chilled, relaxed guys, but we take making music seriously. Because the more people we get to play to around the world,” says Chris, “the more we want to keep touring… and keep partying with people who like our music.”

After all, the Be Impressive ethos was a challenge to be true to themselves and make the best record they could. As a result, it’s easy to revel in The Griswolds uncomplicated worldview. “We’re all about melodies, big hooks, choruses you want to singalong to and having lots of fun,” grins Chris.. “That’s what this band, and this album, is all about.”

      That’s impressive, alright.

      Camden Rock Festival
More names have been added to the already incredible line-up of acts playing this year’s huge Camden Rocks festival – taking place Saturday 30th May.

UK and US rock royalty comes together with Ginger Wildheart and Richie Ramone both being added to the bill. Other names including punk legends Anti Nowhere League and reformed Britpoppers Menswe@r perform a very special 20th anniversary show, alongside hot rock property Jettblack, Dolomite Minor, Brawlers and a whole host more – including a very special secret headline to be announced.

Having already announced the likes of Funereal For A Friend, … And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead, Heavens Basement, proto-punk stalwarts The Dictators NYC, Black Spiders, Dinosaur Pile-Up, and more, this year’s Camden Rocks is set to be the biggest and best year. As well as using the legendary venues in Camden Town, Camden Rocks will also feature an outdoor stage in the Stables Market for the first time ever!

The line up for Camden Rocks so far includes (new additions in bold): Funeral For A Friend, …And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead, Ginger Wildheart, The Dictators NYC, Heavens Basement, Black Spiders, Dinosaur Pile-Up, Turbowolf, Anti Nowhere League, Richie Ramone, Menswear, Lawnmower Deth, Feed The Rhino, Vanilla Pod, Eureka Machines, Jettblack, Black Moth, Max Raptor, Martyr Defiled, Dolomite Minor, Polar, The Dirty Youth, God Damn, Little Matador, Brawlers, Baby Chaos, As Lions, Rob Lynch, Dingus Khan, Cypher16, Freeze The Atlantic, Attention Thieves, The One Hundred, The Men That Will Not Be Blamed For Nothing, Demob Happy, Amaryllis, Samoans, The Carnabys, Creeper, LTNT, The St Pierre Snake Invasion, Beasts, Hyena, Kyshera, Hunter & The Bear, The Scaramanga Six, Protafield, Dead!, Buffalo Summer, Buck & Evans, Monument, Axis Of, High Hopes, Death Remains, Oxygen Thief, iC1’s, Under The Influence, Dead Sea Skulls, The Turning, The Wild Lies, EofE, Rival State, The Amorettes, New Device, State of Play, Reverted, Dirt, Stellify, The Fourfits, The Assist, Danny Wright, Mark Mathews & The One Ts, Venture, Matty James.

Looking forward to the festival, Ginger Wildheart says: “Last year’s Camden Rocks was the best fun I can imagine ever having without the use of straps and rabbits. I can’t wait to play again this year. I’ve had a word with the police and they’ve said it’s fine as long Chris McCormack accepts responsibility for me. See you at the bar, motherfuckers. I’ll be the naked one covered in mud.” Richie Ramone, who performed and wrote with the Ramones from 1982 – 1987 says: “Camden with it’s killer vibe, is always my favourite spot when I am in London. This year is extra special because the band is playing the Camden Rocks Festival, and I couldn’t be happier. It has always been on my wish list, and I can’t wait to hang out and see a bunch of cool bands, party, and hook up with old friends. Fuck yeah!”

Tickets are priced at £30 + booking fee and are available now from www.camdenrocksfestival.com. Venues confirmed for Camden Rocks 2015 include: Electric Ballroom, Underworld, Proud Camden, Barfly, Jazz Cafe, Dingwalls, The Stables Outdoor Stage, The Foundry, The Barfly (Downstairs), Purple Turtle, Black Heart, Hawley Arms, Monarch, The Cuban, The Good Mixer, The Enterprise, Camden head, BrewDog, The Stillery, Dingwalls Canalside Bar, The Black Cap.
